What's the headache that we all experience at least once, and that often happens at the wrong time? The one that's going to make you late, waste your time and your composure, or even make you completely lose your cool? That's right: having to untangle your necklace. So yes, there are those nimble, nimble people (who are also annoying), for whom this mission is as simple as child's play. What's more, they've won the right to untangle other people's necklaces (well done)! If you don't belong to this species and, like us, you need help, here are a few tips that will save your jewellery and your good mood.
TALC
The first method is to use talcum powder. It is known to liquefy, allowing necklace chains to slide more easily. Sprinkle a little talcum powder on your necklace, making sure it is evenly distributed over the tangled areas. After massaging, try to loosen the knots or tangles between your fingers, which can also be powdered with talc beforehand. Above all, remember: be patient and take your time. If you're running out of time, leave it until later. It's best to act slowly and carefully to maximize your chances of success. The health of your jewellery depends on it!
OIL
While this tip is widely adopted, it does require a few precautions. Firstly, the choice of oil: it's best to opt for olive oil or baby oil to avoid any reactions such as oxidation or blackening, whatever the material of your jewellery (gold, silver, plated, metal, steel, brass, etc.). Then, careful how much you use. The oil should be poured in very small quantities. You can never be too careful! Apply a few drops to your necklace and let it soak in for a few minutes to soften the knots. Handle the necklace gently. Try sliding the links with your fingers or using a needle. Once the operation is successful, remember to clean your jewellery well. To do this, find all our advice in our dedicated article.
USE A NEEDLE
This tip can be combined with that of talc and oil. Carefully insert the needle into the center of the knot, trying to free the blocked links. Use caution to avoid breaking the chain or poking yourself. Handle the needle carefully so as not to damage the necklace. Once the needle has gently passed through the knot, you can untangle the links and then try to pull very gently. The knot should then widen and allow you to proceed with detangling. You should even be able to use your fingers to complete the operation. You can also use tweezer safety pins. Avoid toothpicks at all costs. Because of its material, it is too fragile and risks breaking even before the knot is untied. A sure-fire disaster. In conclusion, the needle remains your best weapon. We're counting on you !
All that's left is to choose your method. Now that you know how to take action, how about a bit of prevention too? Let's face it, even with our advice, untangling a necklace chain is never going to be fun. So here are some small storage suggestions to prevent your chains from getting tangled.
